Mother Hubbards Cupboard

Overheard at the Hub.

Mother Hubbards Cupboard, located in Bloomington Indiana has been working day and night since 1998 to help end food insecurity within their community. Constantly being written off as a “food pantry” the Hub has so much more to offer their community, and that’s where we come in.

This is a campaign that is centered the around unlikely connections and friendships formed at the Hub. Community members may come to volunteer, or learn about cooking and gardening, and end up leaving with unexpected friendships. At the Hub, a college student can find a lifelong friendship with a grandpa, a woman in her 40s can become friends with a lifelong resident in her 70s, and a young child can be taken under the wing of a high school student. We want to emphasize that the people that come to the Hub are special. They are all working to better their community, learning and trying new things, while making unexpected connections. Our goal is to have potential volunteers be able to see themselves in these unique connections between vegetables. While these vegetables may look different on the outside, like us, they all are working to help their neighbors, and to make new friends.

What better way to show friendship than conversations among vegetables?

Through showing quirky conversations between foods we thought would otherwise never mix together, we hoped that our audience members were able to see themselves in those conversation - allowing the fruits and vegetables to personify the connections made at the Hub you never saw coming.

From the logo our team had created, we wanted to adapt it into a pin/sticker. Ideally the pins could be handed out at the Hub and placed on backpacks/clothing items, and then the sticks could be placed on items such as laptops and water bottles, which would help spread the word about all the Hub has to offer their community and encourage volunteering.
